Anguilla is reeling after two murders occurred on Friday, 9 May, marking an escalation in gun violence on the island.
The incidents have left the community in shock and deeply concerned about escalating tensions and the potential impact on the island’s safety.
At about 11.30am, the Royal Anguilla Police Force received a report of an incident in the West End area, involving a person lying motionless on the road.
Police officers and emergency medical personnel responded swiftly to the scene, a police press release said.
The victim was identified as 31-year-old Rashe Hodge of The Farrington.
Following further examination of the scene, several spent gun shells were recovered, and the matter was officially classified as a homicide.
The police force has launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident, the press release said.
‘Senseless loss’
Commissioner of Police Robert Clark, said: “This incident represents a senseless loss of life, and we are treating it with the utmost seriousness.”
In the press release, he extended sympathies to the victim’s family and loved ones and said the police force is committed to pursuing justice.
“We are calling on the public to assist us in any way they can. Your cooperation is crucial in helping us bring those responsible to account,” he added.
Just after 9pm, a police statement said officers were on the scene of a second fatal shooting incident that occurred in the North Valley area.
“One male was shot and later succumbed to his injuries. Investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”
