The Grenada Cultural Foundation is pleased to advise that it is hosting this year’s Aunty Tek Spice Word Festival during 13–18 October, under the theme “Echoes of our History and Culture.”
The festival celebrates our words, both written and spoken, while highlighting Grenada’s traditional history. The festival will offer a variety of activities designed to engage students at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, as well as the wider community.
Student-focused activities include:
- Short Story Writing Competition:
- Open to all students at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels
- Theatrical Production — Confessions: The Tale of Two Fishermen
- This Grenadian folklore presentation, presented by La Boucan Creative Centre for secondary school students on Wednesday, 15 October 2025, at the Deluxe Cinema, Grenville, St. Andrew at 10 am and 1 pm
- Special presentation in Carriacou
- Richardo Keens-Douglas will present to primary and secondary school students at the Mermaid Hotel Conference Room on Wednesday, 15 October 2025, from 1 pm
- Primary School visits
- In collaboration with Grenadian Published Authors Inc., book reading and storytelling sessions will be conducted at selected primary schools between 13 and 17 October from 9 am to 2 pm
Public activities:
- Round Table Discussion on the topic “Grenadian Folklore: its relevance and meaning”:
- Monday, 13 October 2025, at the Spice Basket Gazebo, commencing at 6 pm
- Open Mic Night:
- A public platform for local poets, storytellers, spoken work artists and authors to present their work on Thursday, 16 October at the Spice Basket Gazebo, commencing at 6 pm
- Parish-based events:
- Several parishes and communities will be hosting a variety of activities during the week; these activities would feature members of the community preforming the reading of stories, reciting poems, and performing spoken word pieces, dramatic presentations, ring games and drumming.
