By Horace Palacio: 35-year-old Jeffery Pott, a resident of Corozalito, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted on three counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. The sentence was delivered on Tuesday, concluding a trial that garnered considerable attention.
The presiding Judge initially determined a longer sentence for Pott but opted to deduct two years due to Pott’s participation in a prison reform program. During the trial, Pott vehemently denied all accusations brought forth by the victim. His defense included testimony from his common-law wife and another relative, who spoke on his behalf. Additionally, Pott presented two alibi witnesses. However, the Judge ultimately rejected Pott’s defense, concluding that at least one, if not both, of his alibi witnesses provided false testimony.

In contrast, the Judge found the testimony of the victim to be both credible and reliable, and this formed a key basis for the conviction.
In delivering the sentence, the Judge emphasized the importance of sending a strong message to the community, particularly to men, that the sexual abuse of children will be met with severe consequences under the law.
Adding another layer of gravity to the situation, the court revealed that Jeffery Pott is also facing a separate charge of murder. The trial for this murder charge is currently pending, meaning Pott will face further legal proceedings while already incarcerated for the child sexual abuse convictions.
