Two pioneering Caribbean festival founders, through a creative partnership, have launched the SheCreates Caribbean Lab.
Meschida Philip (Grenada) and Priscilla Delannay (Guadeloupe) unite to foster regional collaboration, storytelling, and tech-driven creativity. This is the first inter-Caribbean initiative of its kind, connecting women creatives from English, French, and Dutch-speaking territories and diaspora communities. The lab is a hybrid 12-week residency focused on immersive storytelling, AI-powered filmmaking, and cross-regional creative collaboration. The programme runs from June to August 2025 and accepts applications through 20 May.
Conceived as a collaborative model of training and mentorship, the lab is led by Meschida Philip, Founder of Mprojekts Creative Group and the 12°N, 61°W Grenada Film Festival, alongside Priscilla Delannay, Co-founder and Artistic Director of the Nouveaux Regards Film Festival in Guadeloupe.
“SheCreates is not just a lab — it’s a strategy,” said Philip. “We’re placing Caribbean women at the centre of immersive storytelling, AI production, and cultural preservation while building long-term pathways for regional creative growth.”
“SheCreates is a powerful response to the gaps Caribbean women still face in accessing emerging technologies and international networks,” added Delannay. “With this lab, we are pushing the creative boundaries across languages, islands, and art forms.”
The SheCreates Lab is structured in 3 phases:
- Phase 1: Virtual Foundations: Online training in AI tools, immersive media, and story development
- Phase 2: In-Person Residency (Grenada): Hands-on project development, mentorship, and cultural exchange
- Phase 3: Public Showcase: Final pitch and project presentation at both the 12°N, 61°W Grenada Film Festival and Nouveaux Regards Film Festival
The lab is open to Caribbean women working in film, television, or digital media — including directors, editors, producers, and other creatives — with at least 2 years of experience or a strong portfolio. There is no application fee. Selected participants will be provided with accommodations during the Grenada residency; however, air travel is self-funded.
Applications close 20 May. Apply at: www.1261filmfestival.com/shecreates
In addition to participants, the programme is seeking mentors, industry partners, and institutions interested in supporting Caribbean women in film, technology, and cultural leadership.
SheCreates Caribbean Lab is part of the Creative Caribbean: An Ecosystem of “Play” for Growth and Development, a regional initiative by UNESCO, Caricom, and The University of the West Indies (UWI), with the financial Contribution of the European Union and the Support of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (ACP) States.
