By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 25-year-old Belize City man is facing serious charges after allegedly trying to bribe a police officer with $140 to avoid being charged for suspected cocaine possession.
Dray Mossiah, a painter of #32 Cleghorn Street, was arraigned on Tuesday before a Magistrate in Court #5, where he was read two charges: possession of a controlled drug (an undetermined amount of cocaine) and attempting to corrupt a police officer.

According to police, on the night of Monday, May 19, 2025, officers executed a search warrant at Mossiah’s residence. During the search, they allegedly found a small plastic bag with a white powdery substance, suspected to be cocaine, as well as several straws with cocaine residue.
The officer who conducted the search reported that after informing Mossiah of the offense, the accused offered him $140 in cash—two $50 bills, two $10 bills, and one $20 bill—asking him to drop the charges and release him.
In court, Mossiah initially pleaded guilty to both charges. However, after hearing the facts, he appeared uncertain, telling the court, “No drugs was found in the straw.” The Magistrate, unsure whether Mossiah fully understood the charges, entered a not guilty plea on his behalf and advised him to seek legal advice.
Mossiah later asked for a sentencing indication. The Magistrate explained that as a first-time offender for these specific charges, he could face fines between $100 and $200 per charge. Mossiah again said he wanted to plead guilty, but the Magistrate maintained the not guilty plea until his next court date.
With no objection to bail, Mossiah was granted bail of $500 with one surety. However, before posting bail, he was ordered to pay $500 toward an outstanding $10,000 fine from a 2021 drug conviction for possession of over 7 pounds of marijuana. He managed to make the payment by 3:50 p.m. and was released.
Mossiah is expected back in court on July 15, 2025, and was given until June to make another substantial payment toward his remaining balance of $9,505 from the 2021 case.
