Ottawa.- The Embassy of the Dominican Republic in Canada has announced that “Dominican Week” will return from October 14-16, with events scheduled in both Ottawa and Toronto. The initiative, marking the first time the event has been held in several years, aims to strengthen bilateral ties in trade, investment, tourism, and cooperation.
Ambassador José A. Blanco highlighted that the timing of the event is particularly significant, coinciding with a new Canadian government led by Prime Minister Mark Carney. “Dominican Week is returning with a renewed purpose, designed to project the Dominican Republic as a reliable, competitive, and strategic partner for Canada,” Blanco said in a press release.
The Dominican delegation will include government officials and private sector leaders. Over the three days, they will hold meetings with Canadian federal, provincial, and parliamentary authorities, as well as business, academic, scientific, and technology leaders.
Extensive agenda to promote economic and cultural exchange
The agenda is packed with activities designed to showcase the Dominican Republic’s economic strengths. Key events include panel discussions on trade, investment, tourism, and air connectivity. The delegation will also attend breakfasts with investment funds, tour research centers focused on critical minerals and rare earth elements, and visit a leading aerospace company.
On the cultural front, Dominican Week in Canada will feature a culinary showcase that blends the best of Dominican cuisine with a selection of premium rum, cigars, coffee, and cocoa, highlighting the quality of the country’s export products.
The event will also serve as a platform to promote the 10th Summit of the Americas, which is set to take place in the Dominican Republic in December. The embassy anticipates that a business forum at the summit will be instrumental in creating new commercial opportunities and strategic partnerships across the hemisphere.
According to the embassy, Dominican Week has become the most important event of the year for their mission, aligning with the country’s foreign policy to foster national development and international outreach.
