Job summary:
The Production Manager ensures maximum daily output of finished products to meet all targets, overseeing Bottling and Blending support systems and driving process improvements while maintaining strict safety and quality compliance.
Key responsibilities and activities:
General
- Ensure all production meets the required quality, and ISO 22000 requirements are strictly adhered to in all procedures
- Verify that correct and approved materials are used in the manufacturing process.
- Formulate the daily and weekly production schedules and work assignments
- Ensure all downtime and quality records are completed on time, every time
- Take responsibility for the development and maintenance of all work instructions associated with all operations
- Manage the process from blending to packaging to reduce equipment downtime and maximise the efficiency of plant machinery and human resources, to meet and surpass targets
- Develop and monitor the performance of staff within the department, to ensure that employee development objectives are carried out, and staff morale is maintained
- Conduct data analysis continuously, and effect improvements where necessary to optimise the operation, improve efficiency, and productivity
- Ensure all accidents/incidents are reported to relevant personnel and forms are completed according to ISO 22000 food safety management system
- Assist in formulating annual expenditure budgets for both recurrent and capital expenditures for the department
- Ensure the timely submission of all reports of daily production to the General Manager
Bottling and Blending Operations
- Liaise with Quality Department to optimise blending processes to reduce blending down times and losses in the manufacturing process
- Ensure the Production Lines are crewed properly for daily operations and that line start time is adhered to by personnel assigned to the lines
- Prepare and circulate records and/or reports relating to key Bottling and Blending activities and metrics set
- Manage all cask movements, including scheduling of filling and emptying operations to meet current and future bottling requirements
- Plan the proper storage of casks to maximise warehouse spacing while minimising cask losses due to leakage, pests, or cask damage
Minimum Requirements:
| Qualification (education): | BSc Degree in Natural Science or Engineering
Post-graduate qualification in Distilling is an asset Certification in ISO Management Systems and Food Safety Procedures |
| Knowledge | Knowledge of the principles of all types of liquid filtration
Knowledge of packaging material requirements Knowledge of HACCP and Good Manufacturing Practices Thorough knowledge of Quality Control in the Industry |
| Skills (Technical/functional/behavioural): | Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Human relations and time management Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written Teamwork, people development Execution and foresight, innovative problem solving Ability to initiate continuous improvement to increase productivity and profitability Ability to collaborate effectively with departmental managers/senior management on various tactical and strategic objectives |
| Experience: | A minimum of 5 years’ work experience in a distillery or similar facility, supervising operations
Experience managing a team Experience in project management and supervision of budgets |
