By Rubén Morales Iglesias: American cyclist Jade Stevens powered to victory at the 34th Annual Puma Women’s Cross Country Cycling Classic, securing first place in the grueling 73-mile race from San Ignacio to Digi Park in Belize City. She was followed by Belize’s rising star Irene Baki in second, Francine Gigli in third, Youth Cross Country Champion Lianni Choto in fourth, Gabrielle Lovel in fifth, and junior cyclist Chelsy Gillett in sixth.

Stevens, representing Major Motion Racing LLC, made her decisive move by Mile 30, launching a bold attack that shook up the race. Irene Baki, racing for Williams Racing Development (WRD), immediately responded, refusing to let Stevens pull away. The two riders then formed a breakaway duo, engaging in an intense head-to-head battle. Their relentless pace widened the gap between them and the chasing pack, growing to an astonishing 11-minute lead as they neared Belize City.
While Stevens claimed victory, the junior and youth riders made a significant impact, with Baki securing second place, Choto taking fourth, and Gillett finishing sixth. Their performances demonstrated the strength of Belize’s young cyclists, marking them as future contenders on the elite racing stage.
Stevens’ win adds another exciting moment to the race’s history, while Baki’s remarkable performance solidifies her position as a rising star in Belizean cycling.
