A woman from the United States has gone missing while on a Holland America cruise in the Caribbean. Police in Sint Maarten say that 55-year-old Ann Evans did not return to the Rotterdam cruise ship on November 20.
She left the ship at about 10 a.m. while it was docked in Philipsburg and joined a bus tour of the island. In Marigot, on the French side of Saint Martin, she got off the bus and never came back to the tour or to the ship.
Police on both the Dutch and French sides of the island are searching for her. They are asking the public for help. They also asked that if Ms. Evans sees the alert herself, she should contact her family or the police so they know she is safe.
Holland America confirmed that a guest failed to return to the vessel and said they immediately informed local authorities. The Rotterdam is on a 12-day round-trip cruise that left Fort Lauderdale on November 16, with stops in the Bahamas, St. Lucia, Tobago, Barbados and Puerto Rico. It is due back on November 28.
Law enforcement on both the French and Dutch sides of the island has been alerted to Evans’ disappearance.
Local police believe that a female matching the description of Evans used her passport to check into a hotel on the French side of the island. She has also been seen in the area around the hotel, according to a local news outlet.
US law requires cruise lines that start and finish in the United States to report crimes on board to the FBI. Up to the end of September 2025, there have been six reports of missing US citizens on cruise ships.
