The Former Leader of Government Business in the Senate, Gail Christian, has taken up a new diplomatic post after accepting the position of Consul General of Antigua and Barbuda in Canada.
Christian, a seasoned Attorney-at-Law, is no stranger to public service, having previously served the nation as Ambassador to Mexico from 2014 to 2017, and also as the Senate Minority Leader.
Christian officially assumed her new responsibilities in Toronto last week.
She spoke about the significance of the appointment during an interview with Observer media.
“I accept this responsibility with the full knowledge that to be asked to serve my country in this new role is significant,” she noted.
The new Consul General also expressed gratitude to the nation’s leadership for the trust placed in her. “I am humbled and grateful to have the confidence of the Prime Minister Gaston Browne and the Members of Cabinet,” she stated. “I am ever so grateful for the kind sentiments that have been expressed.”
Speaking about her commitment to the role, Christian added: “My desire is to fulfill those tasks and responsibilities entrusted to me, and I intend to fulfill them with the utmost care and due consideration.”
