Police have arrested an auxiliary constable in relation to an armed robbery in George Town last year when the payroll for staff at a nearby construction site was stolen.
The 28-year-old man, of East End, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery on Friday, 11 April. The RCIPS said the officer has been suspended from duty.
He is the second person to be arrested in connection with the robbery at a side car park of the Commercial Centre on Eastern Avenue on the afternoon of Monday, 18 Nov., when the payroll for the staff working on the Hyatt Residences construction site was stolen by three men, one of whom was armed with a gun.
Police said at the time that a site employee had been robbed of “a large quantity of money” earmarked for wages.
In a press release on Monday about the latest arrest, police said the constable has been granted bail as investigations continue.
In December, police arrested a 30-year-old-man of West Bay on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery and other related offences in connection with the robbery.
Following the robbery, staff at the construction site went on strike temporarily to protest over not being paid.
