By Horace Palacio: Denroy Moss, 34, is likely to spend the next five years behind bars after pleading guilty to two firearm-related offenses. The Belize City resident was charged after police discovered a homemade gun and five rounds of .38 ammunition inside his home on Sunday morning. Moss, a father of two young children, appeared in court without legal representation and offered a simple explanation: he had planned to get rid of the weapon but forgot.
The court was not moved by his account and has scheduled sentencing for April 17th. Under Belizean law, possession of a prohibited firearm and unlicensed ammunition carries a mandatory five-year sentence.

While some may sympathize with Moss’s situation as a father, the law remains clear. Authorities continue to caution the public that possessing illegal firearms will result in severe consequences, regardless of intent. With gun violence a persistent concern in the country, the justice system appears committed to sending a strong message through consistent enforcement.
