By Aaron Humes: A young man was hospitalized following a shooting incident that occurred on Saturday night in Belize City. Damion Dawson, 22, was shot multiple times while conversing with another individual on Curassow Street, just outside the Belize Integral Health Clinic.
According to police reports, around 7:55 PM, a black SUV approached the scene and stopped at the intersection of Curassow and Gibnut Streets. An unidentified male passenger exited the vehicle and opened fire towards Dawson and his companion, striking Dawson several times. The assault also resulted in damage to a nearby gray Nissan Rogue parked in the vicinity, as well as to the window frames of a residence on Curassow Street.
The suspect quickly re-entered the SUV and fled the scene toward Central American Boulevard, evading capture. Dawson was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he is currently listed in stable condition.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are appealing to the public for any information that may assist in identifying the shooter.
