By Rubén Morales Iglesias: El Salvador defeated Belize 7–0 on Friday night at the Estadio Miguel Chocorrón Buitrago in Managua, strengthening their position at the top of Group A in the Concacaf U20 Championship—where only the first‑place team advances to the next round of qualifiers for the Brazil 2027 U20 World Cup.
El Salvador opened the scoring in the 9th minute through Christian Correas. Belize settled after the early goal, but the match turned sharply late in the first half. In the 39th minute, a dangerous ball into the Belize box forced Stephen López into a pressured clearance, but he mishit the ball and scored in his own net. Two minutes later, in the 41st, Johann Ortiz cut inside, slipped past López, and beat goalkeeper Ingram for a 3–0 halftime lead.
El Salvador continued to dominate after the break. Ortiz scored again in the 59th minute, William Cabrera added a fifth in the 78th, Jonathan Aguirre struck in the 88th, and Gabriel Arnold closed the scoring in the 90+2 minute for the 7–0 final.
The victory gives El Salvador 12 points from four matches, maintaining their perfect record. Belize remain on 6 points, but with only one match left and only the group winner advancing, they are now out of contention for first place.
Belize will now aim to secure third place when they face St. Martin at 5:00 pm on Tuesday in their final Group A match.
Elsewhere in the group on Friday, Suriname defeated Grenada 4–0, while Saint Martin drew 1–1 with French Guiana, tightening the standings behind the leaders.
