Local television returns to Cayman today with Compass Media’s launch of Compass TV, presenting news and community-focused content across multiple platforms.
Compass TV will be the home for breaking news; local programming; current affairs; sports, entertainment and lifestyle stories; and weather updates, keeping Cayman informed and connected.
Programming will be streamed live on its dedicated website, CompassTV.ky, and broadcast on all local cable providers: Logic, Flow, C3, and Digicel. The launch follows an announcement in August last year that the company was growing its team and enhancing its digital and streaming content on new multimedia platforms.
“Compass has a long pioneering heritage in Cayman. The week ahead is an exciting and important step in the future of Compass Media, defined by the launch of new products and a celebration of our flagship newspaper,” said publisher and head of Compass Media Tripp Donnelly.
He added, “We face tomorrow’s challenges armed with the platforms necessary to educate, inform and entertain the people of Cayman across every medium.”
A meaningful next chapter
“The rebirth of broadcast television news in Cayman is important for our community as they invite Daybreak, Compass News and Forefront into their homes,” Donnelly said. “We will feature Cayman’s lighter moments but are ever-present and ever-capable to inform and communicate the hard news facing the country and region.”
The TV team, announced this month following a nationwide talent search, is comprised of former Cayman27 broadcasters Tammi Sulliman, Simon Boxall, Andrel Harris, Philipp Richter and Seaford Russell Jr., as well as a new generation of broadcasters – Tobi Brennan, Zosia McGregor, Mina Whorms, Raegan Rutty and Mark Westin.
Among the offerings, Daybreak will start programming every weekday at 7am, with Compass News at 5pm. Veteran journalist Sulliman will host a weekly political show ‘Forefront’ on Thursdays at 7pm. The LinkUp podcast is set for Wednesdays at 7pm, with ‘Caribbean Week in Review’ on Fridays at 5:30pm.
Along with its new programming, the company revealed a refreshed brand.
“The compass is and has been our logo for a reason, to inform and guide our path and the Cayman community. The new brand and look bring all of our core products under one umbrella that’s clean, intuitive and user-friendly. It mirrors the quality and consistency of our content across platforms, whether you choose to meet us at the print edition or on TV,” Donnelly said.
Also on the horizon, Compass Media’s four radio stations will go live in the Sister Islands in the coming months, he said, “marking another exciting expansion across all of Cayman. While our reach here at home expands, it is also important to note our radio platform is streamed in over 35 countries, as our own Z99 celebrates over 30 years as Cayman’s first commercial radio station.”
