A Cashew Hill resident who pleaded guilty to wounding with intent has been sentenced to pay substantial fines or face years in prison for stabbing a stranger.
Kenroy Paige appeared before Justice Tunde Bakre in the High Court, where he received his sentence for the unprovoked attack that occurred on June 21, 2023.
Justice Bakre ordered Paige to pay a fine of $2,000 within 30 days or serve four years and four months in prison if he fails to make the payment. Additionally, he must pay $1,500 in compensation to the victim within six days or face an additional six months behind bars.
Reports indicate that on the day of the incident, Paige stabbed a young man he did not know. The attack reportedly occurred when Paige approached the victim from behind and stabbed him in the side without provocation.
The incident was captured both in photographs and on video, which showed Paige standing in the middle of the street holding a white-handled knife. Police recovered two knives at the scene following the attack.
The compensation order also ensures that the victim receives some redress for the unprovoked assault.
Paige had pleaded guilty to the charge of wounding with intent in April, acknowledging his responsibility for the attack on the victim whom he did not know.
