By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Clash of the North Championship moves into its second week this Sunday, June 8, as four top teams battle for supremacy at the Carolina Football Field in Corozal. Following decisive victories last week, the Orange Walk sides, San Jose Pumas and Progresso FC aim to keep their momentum, while the Corozal clubs, Calcutta Bulls and Sarteneja FC, seek redemption.


Sunday’s first match at 2:00 pm will see the Calcutta Bulls take on Progresso FC, who replaced Yo Creek United in the tournament. Last week. Progresso FC dominated in their opening match, securing a commanding 3-0 victory over Corozal champions Sarteneja FC, with goals from Miguel Yco, Francisco Rivas, and Jareth Tablada. Now, they will look to extend their winning streak against a Calcutta Bulls squad eager to bounce back from their tough defeat against San Jose Pumas.
The second game at 4:00 pm will feature Sarteneja FC facing the undefeated San Jose Pumas, who made a statement with their 3-0 win over Calcutta Bulls last week. Reinforcement player Mark Bainton, along with Diego Chan and Bryce Lawrence, propelled the Pumas to victory with a late scoring surge. Sarteneja FC will need a strong defensive stand to slow down the Pumas’ high-powered attack.

Championship Format and Prizes
The Clash of the North Championship us three-weekend competition featuring the top clubs from Orange Walk and Corozal. Teams earn three points for a win in regular time, two points for a victory in extra time, and one point if they prevail via penalties. With each match carrying significant playoff implications, Sunday’s games could determine who advances to the grand final, which will be hosted at the home venue of the highest-ranked team.
The championship’s prize purse stands at $3,000, contributed by FFB President Sergio Chuc, Orange Walk Mayor Ladrick Sheppard, Corozal Football Association Chairman Mario Casanova, and Corozal Mayor Rigo Vellos. The winners wil earn $2,000 and the subchampions $1,000.
With Week 2 on the horizon, all eyes will be on Corozal this Sunday as teams fight to solidify their positions in the standings.
