A Liberta family of 11 who lost everything in a devastating house fire two years ago is starting a new chapter today after receiving the keys to a brand-new four-bedroom home, made possible through an extraordinary show of national unity and compassion.
The handover took place this week and marked the culmination of a powerful community-driven effort that brought together residents, government leaders, corporate Antigua, and civil society partners in a shared mission to restore hope.
New HAPI home in Liberta
The initiative was sparked by MP E.P. Chet Greene’s early involvement, which helped mobilise neighbours and supporters to begin raising funds for the displaced family. Deeply moved by the community’s determination, Minister Greene made a formal appeal to HAPI, which responded with overwhelming support.
What followed was a remarkable example of partnership in action—proof of what can be achieved when community spirit, government backing, and private-sector support align around a common cause.
Adding a unique and deeply meaningful layer to the project was the skilled craftsmanship provided by inmates from His Majesty’s Prison. Using their talents and training, the inmates played a key role in transforming what once seemed like an impossible dream into a safe, loving home for the family.
