New Zealand secured a four-wicket win in the third and final One-Day International at Seddon Park, completing a 3-0 series sweep over West Indies. West Indies struggled with the bat against New Zealand’s bowlers.
After West Indies chose to bat first, Matt Henry took four wickets, while Jacob Duffy and Michael Santner claimed two each. The visitors were dismissed for just 161 in 36.2 overs.
In the home side chase, Mark Chapman scored a half-century, and Michael Bracewell struck an unbeaten 40, as New Zealand reached 162 for six in 30.3 overs.
Once New Zealand’s bowlers, led by Player-of-the-Match Henry, reduced West Indies to 95 for seven, the outcome was clear.
West Indies openers John Campbell and Akeem Auguste started with a 31-run partnership in under four overs.
But in the next over, Henry had Auguste caught for 17, and two balls later, he bowled Keacy Carty for a duck.
Campbell then fell to Kyle Jamieson in the ninth over, caught by Bracewell at slip, which left West Indies at 55 for three.
They fell further into trouble when captain Shai Hope was caught by the keeper for 16, and when Sherfane Rutherford, Justin Greaves and Matthew Forde fell for just four more runs.
The West Indies slipped further to 95 for seven after 19 overs, deepening their trouble.
Roston Chase scored a fighting 38 off 55 balls, while Khary Pierre remained unbeaten on 22 from 34 balls, helping the West Indies reach their final total..
Henry ended with figures of 4-43, while Duffy and Santner both grabbed 2-27 for New Zealand.
West Indies’ Jayden Seales had Devon Conway caught, and Forde bowled Rachin Ravindra to reduce New Zealand to 27 for two in their chase.
After Will Young was dismissed thanks to a catch by Khary Pierre, Chapman added 38 runs with Tom Latham, and then 75 more with Bracewell, regaining control for New Zealand. Chapman reached his half-century in 58 balls.
With victory near at 146 for four, West Indies removed Chapman for 64 off 63 balls and captain Mitchell Santner for nine. Zak Foulkesthen joined Bracewell to complete the win.
Bracewell faced 31 balls and struck six boundaries in his unbeaten innings.
Seales (2-35) and Forde (2-46) were the best bowlers for the West Indies.
