The New Demerara River Crossing is more than a bridge—it is now crowned with Guyana’s own symbol of honour.
All four towers are topped with replicas of the Cacique Crown of Honour (CCH), the country’s second-highest national award. Each crown is over five metres tall, five metres wide, and weighs nearly 12 tonnes. At night they will shine across the horizon, serving as both beacon and national symbol.

The US$260 million cable-stayed bridge has passed all load tests and is designed to last 100 years. It replaces the old floating bridge, promising safer, faster travel for thousands of commuters.
Delays and challenges aside, the project is complete. On Sunday, Guyanese from all ten regions will gather for its official opening, led by President Irfaan Ali. The day will include a symbolic walk across the bridge and a fireworks display to celebrate this new landmark of resilience and pride.
