As International Coastal Clean Up Day 2025 approaches, the central themes of protection of marine life and the preservation of the natural environment come to the fore.
In line with this mission, the Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN) Dominica is part of an initiative to actively reduce marine debris and safeguard coastal ecosystems. Through partnership with Ocean Conservancy and the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation (DSWMC), the group has announced the observance of the event. Scheduled for Saturday, September 20, 2025, a media statement from CYEN shared that it aims to mobilize community participation in environmental conservation efforts. The plan is part of a global movement to combat marine litter and protect coastal habitats.
This year’s initiative will focus on Anse De Mai Beach. CYEN stated that transportation for volunteers will be arranged, with buses departing from Roseau at 6:45 AM.
Volunteers will be engaged in removing debris and sargassum from the beach, directly contributing to the conservation of marine species and the overall health of Dominica’s natural environment.
In anticipation of the event, CYEN Dominica will host a Pre-Cleanup Webinar on Thursday, September 18, at 6:00 PM. During the session, participants will learn about the importance of Coastal Cleanup Day, share best practices for waste management, and provide logistical details to ensure an organized and effective cleanup effort.
CYEN Dominica encourages individuals, families, schools, and community groups to take part in this vital environmental initiative.
Children are also welcome to participate, provided they are properly supervised, said the release.
