The Caribbean Youth Environmental Network (CYEN) – Dominica, in partnership with the Royal Commonwealth Society, Commonwealth Sport, and Commonwealth Sport Dominica, has announced a significant beach cleanup initiative set to take place at Woodbridge Bay on April 12, 2025, beginning at 8:00 AM. This environmentally-focused event is part of the Commonwealth Clean Oceans Plastics Campaign and aligns with the Commonwealth Baton Relay scheduled to occur in Dominica from April 6 to 12, 2025. CYEN shared via press release that the cleanup aims to address the urgent issue of plastic pollution and its adverse effects on marine ecosystems.
The beach cleanup at Woodbridge Bay will unite volunteers from across Dominica, who will work together to remove plastic waste and other pollutants from the shoreline. The plan is not only to protect local marine life and enhance coastal ecosystems but to also educate and raise community awareness about the impact of plastic waste and promote responsible waste management practices. Participants will have the unique opportunity to engage with each other as they contribute to the health and beauty of their environment, said the organization.
CYEN Dominica is actively encouraging individuals, community groups, and organizations to join in this impactful effort. Volunteers will be provided with essential cleanup materials, including gloves and garbage bags, to ensure an organized and effective cleanup operation. Attendees are reminded to bring reusable water bottles, sun protection, and their commitment to making a positive change. As part of CYEN Dominica’s ongoing mission to foster environmental stewardship among youth, this event underscores the importance of collaborative action in safeguarding the island’s natural heritage.
