By Horace Palacio: The Caribbean Court of Justice has officially brought an end to the final legal challenge of convicted murderer William “Danny” Mason, dismissing his attempt to appeal the life sentence handed down for the 2016 beheading of Pastor Llewellyn Lucas.
Mason, along with four co-accused, was sentenced in 2020 after Pastor Lucas’s severed head was discovered in a bucket in the back of Mason’s vehicle — a crime that stunned the nation and captured international headlines.

His recent effort to challenge the conviction at the CCJ was rejected due to missed filing deadlines and what the court described as a lack of merit. Although Mason’s legal team cited extenuating circumstances, including his former attorney’s hospitalization, the Court found that the appeal posed no realistic chance of success.
In its ruling, the Court stated that no serious miscarriage of justice had occurred, nor had any issue of national legal importance been raised that would justify a hearing.
With this decision, Mason and his co-defendants will continue serving life sentences.
