A grassroots basketball development initiative founded by Dominican native Khalil Brown has quickly climbed the ranks to become one of the top independent basketball programs in New Jersey. According to a company press release, Pro Dev Unlimited, an organization dedicated to youth athletic training and personal development, has been ranked the number one program by NJHoopsHub, a prominent sports media outlet focused on high school and college basketball news, rankings, and recruiting updates across New Jersey. Pro Dev says that this achievement underscores Pro Dev’s rapid growth and its reputation as one of the most successful grassroots basketball programs nationwide.
Through its comprehensive athlete development model, Pro Dev explained that it has built a proven track record of transforming young athletes’ lives. The organization also reports that it has facilitated over $2 million in athletic and academic scholarships for college placements and has secured more than 100 championship titles. Its core philosophy emphasizes that talented athletes who might be overlooked by traditional pathways can reach extraordinary heights when given the right opportunities.
As per the release, Pro Dev’s holistic approach includes collaborations with affiliated institutions such as the Johnson Brown Academy and the nonprofit Passion Pursuit Academy. These organizations focus on nurturing both athletic prowess and academic achievement. Additionally, Pro Dev partners with Prociety, led by Marques Johnson, who functions as the director of player development and head coach of the Los Angeles-based Left Coast Legends AAU team—an organization founded by NBA executive Jesse Buss. It further indicated that Left Coast Legends has recently earned national recognition, ranking first in the nation in the 10-and-under division and fourth in the 9-and-under category according to Grassroots 365.
The write-up highlights that the effectiveness of Pro Dev’s model is evident in its success in securing higher education opportunities for its athletes. Notable examples include visits to prestigious NCAA Division I programs such as Syracuse University by athletes like MJ Postell and Jackson Davis. The program’s alumni reportedly include professional players like Austin Reaves and Jake LaRavia of the Los Angeles Lakers, alongside other pros such as Nate Pierre-Louis and Justin Robinson.
Founder and director Khalil Brown, who is the son of Sylma Brown—president of the Association of Dominicans in the Northeast USA (ADNExUS)—stated, “When we started, our vision was simple: find the dedicated players who were overlooked by traditional circuits and give them world-class resources to succeed, not just in sports programmes, but in life. Our #1 ranking in New Jersey is a testament to the hard work of our players and coaches, and the $2 million in scholarships is a measure of our impact on families. We are now at a pivotal moment, ready to scale this life-changing success to thousands more youth across the globe.”
Looking ahead, Pro Dev’s release stated it has aggressive expansion plans. While currently focused on the Tri-State area, the organization is preparing to launch programs in key markets such as Toronto, Miami, Los Angeles, and South Jersey. Internationally, operations are set to begin soon in Italy, Germany, and the United Kingdom. To broaden its community impact, Pro Dev stated that it is also introducing an American football program this month. Moreover, the organization says it is positioning itself for elite competition, partnering with New Jersey Elite to participate in the Nike EYBL Circuit starting in 2026.
