The United Nations and its partners warned on Sunday about the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. For the ninth week in a row, Israeli authorities have kept almost all aid from entering the area.
A statement from the UN Humanitarian Country Team strongly criticized Israel’s actions. The team said that Israeli plans to change how aid is delivered go against basic humanitarian principles and will cause more suffering. People in Gaza already face extreme shortages of food, water, and medical help.
The UN described the situation: bakeries are shut, community kitchens are closed, warehouses are empty, and children are going hungry.
Israel wants all aid to go through military-controlled centers. This would stop the UN and aid groups from working independently.
The UN called this proposal “dangerous.” It said it would leave many people, especially those who can’t travel easily, without any help. It would also force people to go into military zones just to get basic items, risking their lives and the lives of aid workers. It could also push more people out of their homes.
Israeli officials say the new system is needed for security. Meanwhile, Israel is expected to increase its military actions in central and southern Gaza. Thousands of Israeli reservists have been told to prepare for duty, suggesting the situation may get worse.
The UN reminded everyone that aid work must follow key rules: humanity, impartiality, independence, and neutrality. All 16 UN groups and major aid partners in Gaza support this view.
They said aid should go to people wherever they are, not only to places chosen by a military. UN teams are still in Gaza and ready to deliver help if the blockade is lifted.
They called on world leaders to act now and pressure Israel to open the border crossings.
The UN agency for Palestine refugees said on social media that a third of needed supplies are already gone, and another third will run out in less than two months.
