Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mamaland Company SA, part of the Mota-Engil Group, to develop ecological restoration, carbon credit initiatives, and conservation projects in the Dominican Republic. The agreement represents a potential investment of USD 300 million aimed at strengthening the country’s environmental agenda.
The initiative was facilitated by Dominican Ambassador to Portugal Patricia Villegas de Jorge, who emphasized that the partnership positions the Dominican Republic as a regional leader in green finance and climate action. The MoU outlines studies in degraded ecosystems—such as mangroves, wetlands, and protected areas—to guide restoration and conservation efforts.
In addition to environmental impact, the agreement seeks to promote green jobs, technology transfer, institutional strengthening, and training for rural communities.
