NEWLY APPOINTED Harbour View FC assistant coach Keon Brodrick says he is thrilled to finally get the chance to work in a professional football environment, describing the opportunity as a major step in his coaching career.
Broderick, who also serves as the head coach of Excelsior High School, says joining the Premier League outfit marks a long-waited-for milestone and one that comes at just the right time.
“I am feeling very excited about this opportunity that I have received,” Broderick said.
“It is an opportunity that I have been wanting for a while, and I think it is the right time for me to make the move into senior football.”
Harbour View, four-time Jamaica Premier League champions, have endured a difficult start to the season, managing only two wins from eight matches. They sit 12th in the 14-team standings, with four defeats and two draws.
The club recently appointed Vassell Reynolds as its head coach.
Despite the team’s slow start, Broderick sees the situation as a chance to contribute to the club’s turnaround and to gain valuable experience at the highest level of domestic football.
“It is something that can boost my résumé, and it will give me that experience that is very important at the senior level,” he said.
“Working at this level, which is the highest standard of football in this country, can also help me in developing young players as well, because I have worked with youth at Excelsior High School. So it is a win-win situation for me.”
Broderick stated that while this is his first time working within a professional structure, he has previously coached amateur senior teams, which he believes has helped prepare him for this new challenge.
“At this level in a professional structure, it is my first time,” he said.
“But I would have worked with amateur teams at the senior level before in my coaching career.”
Broderick also expressed enthusiasm about working alongside Reynolds, pointing out that they are focused on helping Harbour View rebuild confidence and consistency.
“I look at everything as an opportunity, whether good or bad, and this is an opportunity for both myself and head coach Vassell Reynolds to show what we are capable of doing,” he said.
“It’s also a chance for us to develop players, not only to perform well in the Premier League, but also to play overseas and represent the national team.”
Broderick highlighted that one of their main objectives is to bring stability and consistency to the squad’s performances and results as they aim to move up the table.
“One of the most important objectives that would have been set is to bring some form of stabilisation and consistency as it relates to results,” Broderick said.
“We want to develop our entire Premier League team in such a way that we are not just participating, but competing for the title.”
