Minister of National Security, Major St Clair Leacock has described the fire that gutted the Calliaqua Police Station last Friday evening, March 13, 2026 as a tragedy.
He said it would likely hasten the temporary relocation of the police ranks and their operations into the Calliaqua Town Hall; the officers had already begun relocating to the nearby building from the night of the fire that destroyed the police station and its contents.
“The project officer in my ministry has…been in touch with me to make sure that she gets BRAGSA up and running to see where we can do alternative operations as early as Monday,” the Deputy Prime Minister said on radio on Friday evening in the wake of the fire.
” …we need to go and bite the bullet now, you know. So let’s hope some good comes out of this tragedy,” Leacock added in reference to an earlier statement made that the government intended to relocate the police operations to the town hall to rebuild the police station.
“But the state, we all know, wasn’t in the best of conditions…The loss is a tragedy, but I think if people have been following the news since early January, I’ll give them an indication that this is a police station that had to go… I think that will hasten that decision…”.
