Antigua and Barbuda’s Tanez Francis hit a match-winning century to help guide the Leeward Islands Under-17s to a one-wicket DLS victory over Jamaica Under-17s in the West Indies Rising Stars Under-17 Men’s 50 Over Championships in Trinidad on Tuesday.
Francis, who represents the Empire Cricket Club on the local front, cracked five fours and four sixes as he raced to 110 in 94 deliveries and help guide Leeward Islands to a revised DLS target of 197 for nine in 34 overs. The Jennings Secondary School student had a strike rate of 117 and faced 36 dot balls during his time at the crease.
Kunal Tilokani contributed to the triumph with 34 runs off 53 deliveries while fellow Antiguan, J’Quan Athanaze, made 16 off 21 balls. Adrian Silvera was the pick of the bowlers for Jamaica, claiming five wickets for 26 runs in seven overs. Ryan Littleton chipped in with two for 44 in his seven overs.
Earlier, Jamaica posted 186 for eight after the match had been reduced to 35 overs due to rain.
Demarco Scott led the way with a knock of 57 from 53 balls, with six fours and one six, while Odane Binns hit 39 off 32 balls.
The two shared a partnership of 79 for the fourth wicket that helped Jamaica rebuild their innings after sliding to 67 for three.
Kasim Challenger (3-31) and Kunal Tilokani (2-19) were the best bowlers for the Leeward Islands.
Meanwhile, at Inshan Ali Park, Barbados produced a strong bowling effort on their way to a seven-wicket victory over Guyana. At Gilbert Park, a sensational spell of bowling from Trinidad and Tobago’s left-arm pacer Daron Dhanraj condemned table leaders Windward Islands to a comprehensive five-wicket defeat.
