The Friends of Mount St. John’s Medical Centre (FoMSJMC) has reaffirmed its dedication to advancing healthcare in Antigua and Barbuda with a significant donation to the Oncology Unit at Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC).
The contribution, valued at nearly $40,000 XCD, includes essential medical tools such as IV stands, clinical care recliners, an infusion pump, UV-resistant infusion macrobore sets, wheelchairs, and a digital chair scale. Hospital officials say the new equipment will enhance both the quality of care and the comfort of patients undergoing treatment.
“This is why we do what we do,” said Dwayna Derrick, President of FoMSJMC. “When we see the impact these contributions have on patients and families, it motivates us to continue. Our work is fueled by community support, and every person who attends our events or contributes in any way is part of this difference.”
Frontline staff say the donation is already having a tangible effect. Nurse Lisian Thomas, Nurse Manager of the Oncology Unit, explained: “These donations have a direct and meaningful impact on our patients’ experience. From comfort during long treatment sessions to improved efficiency in care, we truly value and appreciate the generosity of the Friends. Our patients and families feel it.”
