As part of Girl Guides Week, the Grenada Food and Nutrition Council (GFNC) hosted an engaging afternoon of activities focused on physical literacy and healthy snacking. It was an interactive, youth-centred event.
Nutrition Officers from the GFNC assisted the Girl Guides with a hands-on culinary experience where they prepared 3 types of sandwiches using locally made vegetable and cheese pastes:
- Carrot-Cheddar Cheese
- Beetroot-Cheddar Cheese
- Callaloo-Cheddar Cheese
Participants also sampled a locally developed snack — Breadfruit, Coconut, and Chocolate Tray Buns— created by the GFNC’s Product Development & Training Officer (PDTO), Arturo Plutin Soler. In addition to the culinary activity, the event featured a Physical Literacy session that introduced Girl Guides to movement-based games promoting health and fun. Spearheading this session were GFNC staffers Keishon Williams, Stephanie Morain, and Betty Ann Francois.
This outreach initiative aligned with the GFNC’s general outreach activities message: “Eat Local: Strengthen Food and Nutrition Security in Grenada.”
By showcasing locally grown ingredients and engaging youth in healthy food preparation and movement, the GFNC reinforced its commitment to improving the nation’s nutrition security while fostering pride in local food traditions.
