By Horace Palacio: A bushfire that quickly spiraled out of control claimed the life of a 63-year-old man on Saturday in the Farmers Site area at Mile 17 on the George Price Highway.
Authorities confirmed that the victim, Glenford Hamilton, a Belizean unemployed resident of the area, was unable to escape as the flames spread rapidly and engulfed nearby structures. Despite the quick response from emergency teams, Hamilton was found deceased among the charred remains.

According to initial reports, the fire began as a simple bushfire before escalating into a major blaze that overwhelmed the neighborhood. Investigators are working to determine the exact cause of the fire and whether it could have been prevented.
Officials are warning residents to be extremely cautious with open flames, particularly during the dry season when conditions are ripe for bushfires to ignite and spread dangerously fast.
The village of Hattieville mourns Hamilton’s tragic passing as authorities continue their investigation.
