Santo Domingo.- The Joint Task Force announced the creation of a sexual offenders registry, managed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public safety. Minister of the Interior and Police Faride Raful highlighted that the Penal Code supports this initiative and also revealed plans to launch, in October, an action plan to remove firearms from civilians who violate Law 631-16 on Weapons and Ammunition.
The measures, detailed at the conclusion of the Task Force’s 109th follow-up meeting led by Vice President Raquel Peña, will focus on areas with the highest rates of homicides and firearm-related conflicts, under the National Disarmament for Peace Plan (Decree 212-21).
A grace period from October to December, established through Ministry resolution MIP-RR-0008-2025, will allow the renewal of expired firearm licenses under more favorable economic conditions. Police data show that 5,700 firearms have been recovered this year, including 3,958 illegal weapons, 364 with expired licenses, and 1,228 linked to judicial investigations.
