The government has warned residents and travellers about a fraudulent website falsely claiming to offer official online Embarkation-Disembarkation (ED) Cards for entry into the Virgin Islands.
The Immigration Department issued a public advisory yesterday, February 2, alerting the public to a “fraudulent website that is falsely representing itself as the official government platform for applications for an Online ED Card for the territory of the Virgin Islands and is unlawfully charging a fee to enter the territory”.
“The public is advised that this website is NOT affiliated with the Government of the Virgin Islands,” the advisory stated.
Officials stressed that there is only one authorised platform for completing the mandatory online entry form. “The ONLY official website to be used for obtaining an Online ED Card for the Virgin Islands is BVIEDCARD.GOV.VG,” the department stated.
The advisory further noted that “There are NO other authorised websites for this service,” and “There is NO charge to obtain an Online ED Card to enter The Virgin Islands”.
The ED Card system was introduced to streamline the entry and departure process, requiring travellers to complete an online form before arrival. In previous public notices, authorities have reminded travellers that the process is free and conducted exclusively through the official government portal.
In the latest warning, the department warned members of the public to exercise caution when accessing online services related to travel. “Members of the public are strongly urged not to provide personal information or make any payments on unauthorised websites claiming to facilitate entry into the territory,” the advisory urged.
The department also advised individuals who may have already engaged with the fraudulent platform to act promptly. “Anyone who believes they may have interacted with a fraudulent site or made a payment is encouraged to report the matter immediately to their relevant banking institutions,” the advisory stated.
