By Zoila Palma: The revitalization of one of Corozal Town’s most iconic public spaces is officially underway, as local leaders broke ground today on the Central Park Rehabilitation Project.
The initiative marks a significant investment in community infrastructure and public well-being, aiming to transform the heart of the town into a more vibrant, inclusive, and functional space.

Spearheaded by Corozal Bay Area Representative and Minister of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs, Thea Garcia Ramirez, the project is a collaborative effort between the Corozal Town Council and the St. Francis Xavier Credit Union (SFXCU). Construction is being carried out by SGL Designs and Construction.
The $512,531.11 BZD project benefits from a 12.5% GST exemption, bringing the final cost to $448,456.72 BZD. Scheduled for completion in six phases over six months, the construction timeline is designed to minimize disruption to the public while ensuring continuous progress.
Plans for the upgraded Central Park include expanded green areas, a modern stage for cultural performances, improved lighting, refurbished seating, and amenities designed for families and youth.
The historic Corozal Town clock will also be restored, and dedicated zones will celebrate the area’s cultural and recreational identity.
The Corozal Town Council and SFXCU have pledged ongoing coordination throughout the project to ensure transparency and high standards in its execution.
