A gunman who attempted to rob a George Town restaurant in the early hours of Saturday morning is recovering from serious injuries in hospital following a confrontation with a security guard.
Police said the attempted hold-up occurred shortly before 3:45am at a restaurant in Marquee Plaza on Lawrence Boulevard.
“It was reported that a masked man, who appeared to be carrying a firearm, approached the business and was confronted by a security guard. A struggle between the two ensued, resulting in the masked man being injured,” the RCIPS said in a statement.
The masked man fled the scene in a vehicle, leaving behind a loaded firearm, which police later recovered.
Police said no shots were fired and no one else was injured during the incident.
Officers later located the masked man in the vehicle along the Esterley Tibbetts Highway, and detained him until the arrival of the Emergency Medical Services. He was transported to the hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
When police searched the vehicle. they found suspected ganja, ammunition and a knife.
