The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is starting a new online program called the Digital Literacy Program for Health Sector Personnel.
It’s meant to help health workers in the Americas learn how to use digital tools and technology better. This can help improve the way patients receive care.
Today, health care is changing because of digital tools like electronic health records, telemedicine, mobile health apps, and systems that give early warnings about disease outbreaks. But many people in the Region still don’t have enough knowledge or access to these tools.
Marcelo D’Agostino from PAHO said, “This program will help close those gaps and give health workers the knowledge they need to lead changes at work.” He added that stronger digital skills will help build better and fairer health systems.
By the end of the course, participants will know how to use digital technology, handle data, and bring digital ideas into their daily work to make health care better.
The course includes lessons on many topics such as:
- digital transformation
- artificial intelligence (AI)
- data management and privacy
- telehealth
- vital health statistics
- how different digital systems can work together
- using large data sets (big data)
- managing misinformation during health crises
- digital diplomacy
This course is 100% online. It offers:
- technical lessons
- talks with experts
- lectures
- group discussions
- real examples from around the Americas
- a self-test to help learners choose the right path for their needs
The program is free and available in both English and Spanish. It’s hosted on PAHO’s Virtual Campus for Public Health.
This program answers a request made by health ministers in 2021. They asked PAHO to help build health systems that are connected and easy for everyone to use, so that no one is left behind in the digital age.
All health workers are encouraged to join and sign up.
The program officially starts on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:15 a.m. Eastern Time USA.
It is still possible to register for PAHO’s Digital Literacy Program for Health Sector Personnel, even after the official launch on April 16, 2025.
The program is designed as a fully virtual and flexible learning experience, offered free of charge through PAHO’s Virtual Campus for Public Health. While the launch event has passed, there is no indication that registration has closed.
To register or access the course materials, please visit the PAHO Virtual Campus for Public Health. The platform typically allows ongoing enrollment for its online programs.
If you encounter any issues or need further assistance, you can reach out directly to PAHO through their official website or social media channels.
