By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 54-year-old homeless man was fined $1,000 on Monday after pleading guilty to possession of a crack pipe, bringing yet another drug utensil conviction before the Belize City Magistrate’s Court.
Morgan Diego, who claimed to be unemployed and without a fixed residence—though he gave the court a Baracat Street address—was charged with possession of utensils for smoking a controlled drug when he appeared before newly appointed Magistrate Fabian Walthrus in Court #5.

According to police, Diego was found around 9:45 a.m. in Taylor’s Alley with a crack pipe measuring eight centimeters in length. The pipe was made of aluminum and had white and brown paper attached to a brown rubber tip—a setup commonly used for smoking crack cocaine.
Diego, who was unrepresented, wasted no time and pleaded guilty. He admitted to holding the pipe but claimed, “I wasn’t smoking it, it was just in my hand.”
Taking his guilty plea into account, Magistrate Walthrus imposed a non-custodial sentence—a fine of $1,000 plus a $5 cost of court. Diego was ordered to pay the amount by August 29, 2025, or face three months in prison if he fails to do so.
