Humble Lion picked up a massive three points in their bid for survival in the Wray and Nephew-sponsored Jamaica Premier League (JPL) when they downed the more-fancied Arnett Gardens 3-1 at the Effortville Community Centre yesterday.
A brace from Richard Ramsey (14th, 54th) and a lone strike from Deonjay Brown (78th) led the way for the Clarendon-based club.
Warner Brown’s effort in the 32nd minute proved to be a consolation goal for the Junglists.
The win pushed Humble Lion three points clear of the relegation zone as they sit 11th in the standings on 31 points, clear of 12th-placed Molynes United, 29, and bottom-placed Vere Phoenix, 23.
Humble Lion also sit level on points with 10th-placed Harbour View, who hold the advantage with a superior goal difference.
Ramsey gave the Lions the lead early in the contest but saw their lead pegged back when Brown popped up before the half-time whistle to send the teams level at half-time.
Arnett had more opportunities at goal but it was Humble Lion who were more clinical in front of the net as Ramsey restored their one-goal lead.
Deonjay Brown, late in the game and on a counter-attack, showed his attacking instincts as he finished from a close angle to seal the win.
Also in action on the day, Tivoli and Cavalier played out a 1-1 draw at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex.
Alton Lewis opened the scoring for Tivoli in the 43rd minute before Shaquille Stein rescued a point for the defending champions in the 88th minute.
Chapelton Maroons, another club looking to avoid the drop, picked up important points on the road as they defeated Dunbeholden 1-0 in a close contest.
For Waterhouse, it is another missed opportunity to move back into the league’s top six, as they played out a 1-1 draw with Montego Bay United at home.
