By Horace Palacio: Jair Castañeda has expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support from the Belizean community following the traumatic hijacking incident that left him and his colleagues severely injured. In a recent Facebook post, Castañeda thanked the public for their care, compassion, and prayers during this challenging time.
The hijacking, which occurred during a routine flight last week, shocked the nation. Castañeda, along with Captain Howell Grange and Mr. Fitzgerald Brown, was subjected to a violent attack. Despite sustaining injuries, including wounds from the assault, Castañeda is now recovering at home, surrounded by his family.

In his message, Castañeda reflected on how the violence shook the nation, but he emphasized that the kindness and support shown by the public have been a powerful source of strength for him and his family. He expressed deep gratitude, saying, “I’m grateful to be home now, recovering, and surrounded by my family.”
Castañeda also shared a piece of wisdom from his late father, Julio Castañeda, who often said, “A family that prays together stays together.” He encouraged the public to continue praying for Captain Grange and Mr. Brown, hoping for their full recovery as well.
The Castañeda family remains deeply appreciative of the support they have received and stays hopeful as they continue on the path to recovery. Castañeda concluded his message with a reminder of faith: “God is good all the time – and all the time, God is good,” expressing optimism for the future despite the difficult circumstances.
