By Aaron Humes: One Julio ‘N’, a high-ranking member of the infamous Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang, was captured in Belize today and is now on his way back to El Salvador to face serious criminal charges, as confirmed by Prensa Libre and the Guatemalan National Civil Police.
The capture was a collaborative effort involving the National Civil Police of Guatemala, INTERPOL agents, and Belizean immigration authorities, leading to the handover in Melchor de Mencos, Petén. Following a thorough strategic investigation led by INTERPOL Guatemala, law enforcement were able to track down the fugitive and apprehend him in Belize, though sources did not say where he was hiding out and how long he had been here.
‘Julio’ is facing multiple charges in El Salvador, including homicide and the unauthorized possession and use of firearms. He stands to be sentenced for a combined total of 24 years if convicted on all charges—15 years for homicide, 5 years for possession of illegal firearms, and 4 years for related offenses.
After his arrest in Belize, the suspect was swiftly handed over to INTERPOL Guatemala at the border, ensuring a prompt extradition process. The Salvadoran authorities await his return as they prepare for legal proceedings against him.
