Police arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of robbery after the Tortuga liquor store at Heritage Square in West Bay was held up on Friday afternoon.
A masked man, armed with a machete, entered the store around 3pm and demanded cash, police said in a statement Saturday. He damaged a cash register and made off with a quantity of money.
Police confirmed no one was injured in the robbery.
“Officers attended the location and conducted enquiries, and shortly afterwards, arrested a man, age 28, residing in West Bay, on suspicion of robbery. He remains in custody as investigations continue,” police said.
In a statement issued Friday, Tortuga Rum Company said it was “deeply relieved to report that our team members are safe and unharmed”.
The store closed for the remainder of the day as police carried out investigations and staff were offered support.
“The safety and wellbeing of our people is always our top priority,” said Eugene Nolan, the company’s chief executive officer in the statement. “We are providing our staff with the full support and resources they need, and we are cooperating fully with the RCIPS to help bring those responsible to justice.”
