By Horace Palacio: Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday night in Belize City, after a man was gunned down outside a mechanic shop on Electric Avenue.
According to police, officers responded around 8:27 p.m. to reports of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival at the corner of Electric Avenue and McKay Boulevard, officers discovered the body of a man with multiple gunshot wounds. He was found unresponsive inside the yard of the mechanic shop, dressed in a yellow T-shirt and blue shorts.
Initial investigations revealed the victim had been approached by an armed male suspect of Hispanic descent, wearing a dark grey T-shirt and black shorts. The suspect reportedly opened fire before fleeing the scene in the direction of the nearby Complex building.
Scenes of Crime technicians processed the area and recovered expended shells. The victim was transported to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:30 p.m.
No suspects are in custody, and police say the motive for the shooting remains unclear. Investigations are ongoing.
