By Zoila Palma: Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed Thursday that the country’s top security officials are investigating the murder of 23-year-old beauty influencer Valeria Marquez, who was fatally shot while livestreaming on TikTok.
Authorities are treating the case as a possible femicide, Reuters report.

Marquez was killed Tuesday in a Zapopan beauty salon by a man who entered and opened fire. Just before the attack, she was heard on her livestream saying, “They’re coming,” before muting the video.
No suspects have been identified, but the case has sparked national outrage in a country grappling with high levels of violence against women. Marquez had nearly 200,000 followers and had expressed concern earlier about someone trying to deliver an “expensive gift” to her.
Sheinbaum said Mexico’s security cabinet is working closely with prosecutors to find those responsible. Jalisco, where the murder occurred, ranks among Mexico’s most violent states.
