The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) says murders in the country have dropped by 40% since the beginning of the year.
Police Commissioner Dr. Kevin Blake shared this news during a ceremony on May 14 in St. Andrew, where new tech equipment was handed over to the police.
He said that all serious crimes are decreasing. Murders are down by 40%, shootings by 32%, and all major crimes by 21%.
Dr. Blake said this success comes from changes inside the police force. These include better teamwork, stronger leadership, and having more officers present in dangerous areas.
He added, “This didn’t happen by chance. It’s the result of careful planning, motivated staff, and better daily operations.”
He also talked about the growing use of technology in police work. New tools are helping officers respond faster and work more efficiently.
Dr. Blake thanked the Jamaican people for their strong support of the police. He said their help has made a real difference.
He explained that Jamaica is now seeing the benefits of using modern equipment, working closely with the public, and making sure the police are accountable.
While Jamaica remains one of the most violent countries in the Caribbean, due largely to gang conflicts, it is no longer the country with the highest murder rate globally and has been overtaken by nations like Turks and Caicos, Ecuador, and Haiti.
