By Aaron Humes: Motorists and residents in the Orange Walk District are facing a mixed bag of road conditions due to recent flooding. The Philip Goldson Highway and various local roads have been affected, prompting officials to issue important advisories for travelers.
In Yo Creek Village, access to San Lazaro is now passable as water levels have receded. However, caution is still advised for motorists. In contrast, Santa Martha Village continues to experience significant challenges, with Santa Martha Road remaining impassable as water levels stay above two feet.

The road to Guinea Grass Village is passable after a reduction in water levels. Conversely, San Roman Village is facing rising water levels, with the San Roman Road being classified as impassable. Motorists heading to San Roman are urged to take the alternative route from San Antonio for safety.
The Mile 61 area on the Phillip Goldson Highway sees conditions as passable, but the public is urged to exercise extreme caution, with caution signs placed by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing (MIDH) to alert drivers.
In San Antonio Village, the San Antonio Road to August Pine Ridge is passable, as well as the August Pine Ridge to San Felipe Road and the Orange Walk Bypass Road, after decreased water levels.
NEMO recommends that residents in low-lying or flood-prone areas remain alert for any changes throughout the day. Motorists in the Orange Walk District are reminded to drive cautiously as they navigate the various road conditions.
For assistance or more information, residents can reach out to District Coordinator Juan Leiva at 614-7177 or Regional Coordinator Jose Carballo at 614-6044. In case of emergencies, the NEMO hotline is available at 936.
Stay safe on the roads!
