By Zoila Palma: Minister of Infrastructure Development and Housing (MIDH) Julius Espat says that the construction of a new Belcan Bridge in Belize City is set to begin in mid-April 2026, following the deterioration of the existing structure.
The project, valued at BZ$20.5 million, has been awarded to CISCO Construction Ltd. and is funded with support from the Government of Taiwan.
Minister Espat noted that plans include the demolition of the current bridge and construction of a reinforced concrete structure with modern safety features, sidewalks, and improved lighting.
Completion is scheduled for January 2029, with a temporary crossing to be installed to maintain traffic flow during construction.
