Two new Caricom Regional Standards for cocoa beans have been developed to help improve the quality and value of cocoa produced in the Caribbean.
These standards are DCRS 82–Cocoa Bean Quality Sampling Requirements and DCRS 83–Cocoa Bean Quality Specifications.
Cocoa has deep roots in the region, with a unique history and flavour profile that sets it apart on the world stage. These standards set out clear guidelines for how cocoa beans should be sampled, tested, packaged, and stored to meet international expectations, especially for the growing fine flavour cocoa market used in premium chocolates.

These standards aim to support better farming and processing practices, protect the environment, and open doors to high-value export markets. It’s also part of a bigger plan to make the cocoa industry stronger and more sustainable.
The public is encouraged to read the draft standards and share their comments. Your feedback is important to make sure the final version truly supports the people and communities that keep our cocoa traditions alive. You can access the documents and comment forms via this link or reach out to the Grenada Bureau of Standards by emailing [email protected] or calling 440-5886.
