Twelve teams will face off in six finals during this weekend’s ‘Night of Champions’, as the Cool & Smooth sponsored Ministry of Sports Interschools Basketball championships climaxes at the JSC basketball complex on Sunday.
The action is set to shoot off at 2:20pm with the Mini Girls Primary final between Greenbay Primary and Five Islands Primary. Half an hour later, Greenbay Primary will face Cedar Grove Primary in the Mini Boys final.
Coordinator of schools basketball, Carl “Bowlie” Knight, said he will be pulling out all of the stops to ensure the event is a memorable one for all involved.
“I am going to be bringing in a fire guy; the guy who blows the fire out of his mouth and everything and we’re going to have the flares shooting into the air and have the smoke so our guys [players] can run through, especially for that prime time game when they are being announced. I want them to feel like what they see on the television and I want them to remember this night for the rest of their lives,” he said.
Following the presentation for the Mini Division finals, action tips off in the Mini Boys Secondary final at 4:00pm with St Joseph’s Academy taking on Princess Margaret School. At 4:40pm, Princess Margaret play Antigua Grammar in the Junior Secondary Boys Final. The prizegiving and awards ceremony for both finals will be held at 5:30pm.
Knight made a clarion call for members of the public to support the young basketballers as they strive for championship glory.
“We expect to see all the families for the students [players] and the entire community and the entire country because we are inviting everyone to come up to JSC. If it rains you won’t get wet. We have bathroom facilities, seating and everything is here so come on up to the JSC. Don’t miss it! It’s the Cool & Smooth Night of Champions at JSC on April [6]; that’s on Sunday,” the coordinator said.
Sunday’s action climaxes with the Seniors finals. Christ the King High School will tip off against Princess Margaret in the Senior Girls Final starting at 6:00pm while Chare Hall Secondary face Antigua Grammar in the Boys equivalent starting at 7:00pm. The prizegiving ceremony will be held at 8:00pm.
Entrance fee is $10.
