By Aaron Humes: An internal and criminal investigation has been opened against two police constables after a Belmopan resident reported a theft allegedly involving two police officers during a routine traffic stop.
Edin Perez, a 34-year-old mason from the Young Bank Area, claims that his money was unlawfully taken by police while he was detained on the evening of June 8.

According to Perez, he stopped by a dark-skinned male police officer and another officer of Indian descent, who accused him of riding contrary to traffic regulations. After stopping, Perez was escorted behind a nearby building, where the officers conducted a search. He complied with their orders, placing his hands on his head, but alleges that his money, approximately $11 in Belizean currency, was taken during this encounter.
The $11 was recovered during a subsequent search by investigators but police could not confirm whether a larger sum was missing.
